Lesson 1
Playing and Painting Clay
This is an old but sweet lesson from my Soul Bearer’s Class.
Recent studies have shown that playing with clay releases Oxytocin which is the same feeling and comfort we get when we hug each other. Isn’t that just so comforting? Especially during this time when we can’t physically touch each other and perhaps our Oxytocin levels may drop considerably. This may be a wonderful way to keep our levels up and a gentle way to comfort play during lockdown.
I found this odd little polystyrene pawn shape at my art shop and I could immediately see a little character. Most of us may not have something like this lying around at home during this time. But you could easily make something similar with newspaper and masking tape. You could also make a little round head with some foil and cover it with masking tape too.
Supplies Used: Pawn shape, Masking Tape, PaperClay, Matt Medium, Napkin, Acrylic Paints.
Making a littleOne
Now that this little character has arrived, leave her overnight or two to dry out completely. When she’s completely dry, she’s ready to paint. I have used mixed media / napkin to decorate her. There are a multitude of different things you can do to paint your Clay piece.
Using mixed media helps it feel a little less intimidating especially if you are new to painting clay.
